This Post is Either Quite Late or Somewhat Early ...

Truth be told, it was supposed to be ready well before Christmas Day - a little token of appreciation to all one's readers who, she imagines, are every bit as reluctant as she when it comes to forking over hard-earned cash to buy a Monthly Planner. But since this is the woman who shows up late (if at all) to any and all blog parties she's invited to, is always packing up for whatever market she's attending at the last possible second, and considers herself lucky if she manages to add any new seasonal stock to the website the day before the actual holiday itself, it would seem someone amongst us might really benefit from using one. ASAP.

But when the insomniac  started looking around for one to purchase, they all seemed so boring. And expensive! And being the cheapskate she is, she decided to create one for herself and for those who feel they might also benefit from having a bit more organization in their lives. There must be at least a few of you out there. No? Well that's unfortunate, because she didn't get you anything else for Christmas.

You can bet the desk doesn't normally look this tidy ...

When deciding which full moon names to use in her planner, she searched the internet, made a comprehensive list of all the possibilities, then chose whichever ones appealed to her the most. So although some might call March's full moon the Sap Moon, the Worm Moon or the Storm Moon, the insomniac  decided she liked Crow Moon best. Although Death Moon was definitely a very close second.

Despite doing an informal poll on Facebook asking her friends what they'd like to see in a planner, she pretty much disregarded all their comments and chose not to include any events she personally is unlikely to ever be fortunate enough to attend - like Whitby Goth Weekend - because who needs reminding they haven't managed to save up enough money to go again this year. One feels that looking back through one's Monthly Planner and noting all the unmet goals and missed appointments will likely be depressing enough.

She also decided against including Sneak a Zucchini onto your Neighbour's Porch Day, which she considered renaming to Hug Your Taxidermy Day but had second thoughts about that too ... because not everyone is lucky enough to own a house full of taxidermy. Which, again, might be depressing for them.

As you can see from the following shot of April, originally there were little pictures highlighting all the important days of the year - Plan your Epitaph Day, Bat Appreciation Day, Walpurgisnacht, etc. But after printing out the first draft, it was apparent that should someone with a busier life than the insomniac  actually have something else to do on one of those days, there was nowhere to write down that information - therefore, the little pictures were eliminated in the final copy.

There just wasn't enough room for BOTH Easter Monday
AND Bat Appreciation Day ...

Someone will probably rot in Hell for making that particular choice.

In theory, the best part of this planner is that pages can be printed out and ordered in exactly the way it suits one best. If a person likes to journal, they can print out more of the lined pages. If they like to sketch out garden planting schedules according to the moon phases or design their next yard haunt project, they can insert more blank pages. And once printed to one's satisfaction, it only costs around $5 to have it coil bound with a piece of cheap mat board on the front and back - perfect for decorating afterwards to make it look a little less commonplace.

Quite the extensive collection of Tim Holtz products
you have there, insomniac  ...

Certainly nothing to be embarrassed about.

It seems almost a shame to defile the pristine
2017 Monthly Planner with appointments and goals and other such nonsense ...

Now that the insomniac  is in possession of her first ever Monthly Planner, be prepared for a whirlwind of scheduled activity here in the Attic: regular blog posts, new handcrafted items for every market she's attending this year (finished in a timely manner and not at 2:00 a.m. the morning before), completion of all those projects that have been on hold since practically forever - wallpapering the entryway, painting the guest bathroom, making the rest of the cobweb stained glass for the kitchen cupboards, sewing a coffin quilt for the guest bedroom (maybe two, if the first one goes well!), knitting a deer skull Cowichan sweater for the spouse (and maybe one for herself, if the first one goes well!). Oh, the list just goes on and on and on. And on.

But most importantly, on November 14th, 2017 the insomniac  has already made a notation in her planner to get started on the 2018 version, which shall be made available on this blog by November 30th, 2017 at the very latest. All being well. You understand.

Until next time, the insomniac  wishes you nights of blissful sleep filled with pleasant dreams. Goodnight, my pretties.

Obviously, this planner was only just completed at 2:00 a.m. this morning ... there are bound to be mistakes. Please feel free to inform the creator should you find anything that needs rectifying. Merry Christmas.

  1. How sweet of you to do this. Very lovely planner. I especially like the inclusion of the "plan your epitaph" day. We should be prepared for these kinds of things. I hope to see pictures of the completed goals. In particular the deer skull sweater... Happy New Year.

    1. Seemed rather pointless to do it only for myself, Debbi so I'm glad to hear you like it. I cracked up when I found out there was a Plan Your Epitaph Day - I've already got my coffin and burial dress ready ... I guess it only makes sense to plan the rest of it! I'm excited about the sweater and if I manage to come up with a decent pattern, I'll share for all the knitters out there. Happy New Year to you as well, although I sort of did mine at the end of October, too. :)

  2. Aww... You made a Southern Hemisphere one too! ❤ ❤ ❤

And I laughed out loud at:

"There must be at least a few of you out there. No? Well that's unfortunate, because she didn't get you anything else for Christmas."

    And

"Despite doing an informal poll on Facebook asking her friends what they'd like to see in a planner, she pretty much disregarded all their comments... "

I'm sure you neither need nor want to know this, but my husband, who is at home on Christmas break (he is sitting next to me, backing up all the files on his computer. We know how to have fun!! ;D ), is reading your post over my shoulder, and just asked me what on earth "Sneak a Zucchini onto your Neighbour's Porch Day" was, and why anyone would do that? Then, after a few moments of musing, he added: "Unless you painted the zucchini brown, of course!" *groan* See, I told you that you didn't want to know! ;D

    1. Of course I did! ❤ ❤ ❤ LOL Although I got sort of mixed opinions as to whether those of you in the Southern Hemisphere just celebrated the same as the Northern, although that seemed kind of weird when your seasons are reversed. So I thought I should.

Ooooooh. I think it's been about two years since I backed up my files. There's something I REALLY should put in my planner, isn't it?

Doesn't your husband know that anybody who has a vegetable garden always has waaaaay too much zucchini, and the only way to get rid of it is to leave it on someone's doorstep? Actually, painting it brown is kind of funny, but what would be really funny is to set it on fire. See - he and I think alot alike. ;)

  4. I used to have Planners but then I'd forget to actually use them, or remember where I put them... I felt so badly and guilty when one year my Dear Mom bought me a very expensive leather bound one and then I found it two years later, during the Big Move, and I'd never used it because it got misplaced and forgotten right away! I know, clearly I'm not nearly as Organized as you my Dear Friend... my chronic disorganization is legendary in fact, which is why everyone was probably gifting me with Planners, right? *Winks* It didn't however seem to Cure me. *Winks* But the ones you Created are lovely for those that actually have the discipline to utilize one and not lose it. Happy New Year from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

    1. I think your disorganization and mine are probably both legendary, Dawn! As to whether I'll actually have the discipline to use it, we shall see. I did put two dates into it today, and wrote down a few things that I have to get ready for markets. Plus I'm leaving the thing right in the middle of my desk so I have to move it before I can do anything else! That should work, right? lol

Happy New Year to you, too! ❤

  7. Well damn, I ordered one of those fluffy inspirational calendars when I couldn't find a coastal themed one. Now you produce this. That cover is gorgeous Lynne. Maybe you could do a limited run of them for 2018 and sell them? Very good of you to offer the 2017 gratis. I love the font - what's it called? Plan Your Epitaph Day, now that is definitely one every calendar should have. Leave that sort of thing to your relatives and God knows what the result would be.

    1. I like fluffy inspiration calendars! I bet it was hard to find a coastal themed one - there didn't seem to be much of a selection in Chapters when I went looking. Mostly Kate Spade ones.

I'm actually thinking of doing a permanent cover and selling that, but offering the yearly inserts for free. But I have to figure out how to print on leather first. lol

The font is called Kaiserzeit Gotisch. I got permission from the creator yesterday to use it for the planner (which I forgot to do until I tried to convert it to PDF format and found out it was copyrighted!), so now it's all legal. Do tell - what's your epitaph going to be? ;)

    1. Thank you, Madame MM! Uh oh - are you thinking of making a permanent monthly planner cover too? lol

To be honest, I've never in my life used one, but even though I've just started I think I'll be more inclined to actually complete the things if they're written down somewhere. And since I started putting down all my ideas of things I want to make, I can't believe when I went back over them today how many I'd forgotten about already! And that was only like two months ago!! I guess I need to admit I'm at the age where I need to write things down. And get a damn flu shot. lol

  16. Late or early, my dark love, you freaking rock. I'm a daily/weekly/monthly planner addict. And my sexy Piano Man and friends know this well. So... this year, I got a Suicide Squad planner, a Terry Pratchett Diary, an Emily Strange planner, and Meals planner (the latter is an actual need for us, Crohnies). And now, you give me a witchy planner! I can barely keep myself from running around the house screaming about my luck. I shall print my planner as soon as I'm done wit this. Did I mention that you rock? I hope I did. Because you do.

I should probably learn some tips from you on how to actually use a planner properly, this being my first time and all. I'm sure there's many things I'm unaware of that would probably be quite helpful!

I know, right? Plan your Epitaph and Bat Appreciation days are likely my favourites. I guess we all know how I feel about bats after last night's conversation. ;)

  17. Ooh I'm in love with your planner, it's brilliant. Think there was an error in missing Dragon appreciation off but I'll soon rectify that on my copy LOL. I fully agree on the importance of Bat appreciation day. The only other thing I'll note for other English peeps like me is that I first printed on A4 and it missed a couple lines of the end, silly me should have realized it was more likely to be set up for US letter size. I'll get some right size paper and print it out again before I bind it. Thanks so much for this. :)

    1. Thank you, Jane! I'm delighted you like it. ❤

Is there honestly a Dragon Appreciation Day? I'm sorry I missed that! I have added a notation to the blog post about it being set up for 8½ x 11 paper. If it's fairly easy to find over there, I might just leave it as I was planning on making some permanent hard covers for the planner in future and it's easier (for me!) if I only have to worry about making them one size. I hope you enjoy your planner, and if you can find the parchment looking paper anywhere it really looks nice printed on that. :)

  19. How much fun is this!!! I decided to buy a Moleskine planner this year -- the one with the week on the left and the ruled lines for notes to the right. It's super plain, which gives me some leeway to decorate it with stickers, tape, etc. I am so tired and bored with the planners that are for sale these days. Moleskine is a no nonsense, no frills kind of thing ... but this! This is so awesome! Thank you so much!!! And Happy New Year!

    1. I never made it back into the city in December to look through a Moleskine, but I did like your idea of having lots of lines available for writing out notes. I'm using it to list out all the things I need to make each month for markets - I cannot believe how much I forget in a few weeks until I go back and look through those notes! lol

And yes, the first time I was in the bookstore looking at journals, they were mostly too frou-frou for my tastes, except the beautiful leather-clad ones which were $75! And that would be fine if you could reuse the cover every year, but obviously they weren't set up for that ... because you can't make any money that way. So next on the list of projects is a proper reusable planner cover at a fair price. ;)

Happy New Year to you and Ed! ❤ Your new place looks amazing - so much light! And you can start planting a garden in March!! Kinda jealous. We were going through the seed catalogues yesterday and eliminating anything with a maturity greater than 55 days. :P

Also, I am laughing you wrote down Poe´s bday (which is the same exact day The Gentle One turns older, so I don´t need to write a note anymore. Hahah). Also, the fact you made TWO versions, according to each hemisphere. ❤

And I feel you about not being able to post about celebration just on time. I always manage to wreck on blogging special occasions. I like to think that makes us look... busy important women? Yes. Let´s keep it.
